I’ve been illustrating for the children’s market for over 25 years. Drawing for kids is just great fun. I love adding silly details like having beavers brush their teeth with toothbrushes made from sticks or frogs gulping beetle burgers at a pondside cafe.
After earning a degree in illustration from Syracuse University, I was recruited to be a staff artist at Hallmark Cards in Missouri. Working there was like going to graduate school; I was surrounded by hundreds of talented creatives, but was being paid to learn even more about color, design, and how to draw really appealing characters.
Eventually, I returned to my home state of Massachusetts to pursue my dream of illustrating children’s books, more than 20 at last count, including Magic Places (Penguin Random House), which has sold over 260,000 copies.
I now live outside of Boston with my husband. We have two grown sons, and a sweet dog who likes to take us for walks in the woods.
